MR. B, G. PETRE. The> death ocourred jt his homo in Merivafe. early last evening, of Mr iAoberi 6. Petto, a' highly esteemed Christchurch resident', who. was:well-. Known throughout uie couth isianu.' Although not enjoying the best of uealth for some months past, Mr Petre continued to attend his office until a few weeks "ago, when his illness took a seriats turn, and he became rabidly worse/ Mr Petre, who was a son of the late Hon. Henry Petre, and grandson of the 11th Baron Petre, of Essex, England, arrived in New Zealand thirty-five years ago. After spending some years on the West Coast, he and his fainily moved to Blenheim, and later to Christchurch, where they have resided for sixteen years'. His elder brother, Mr Frank 5 Petre, architect, died a few years ago in Dunedin, and of his surviving, brothers, one is Mr IJenry Petre, barrister, London-, and his youngest brother is a member of the Carthusian Order in Enpland. His eldest-son, John, was killed in 1915 at Qoinn's Post, v on (Jallipoli. Much sympathy'will be extended to Mrs Petre and members of her family—two daughters and one son. " An old resident of Blenheim, who was well-known in business and racing circles, Mr H. V. Browne, died at Epsom, Auckland, on Tuesday; Mr Browne arrived in New, Zealand with his-brother, Mr J. Browne,.of Epsom, in the s.s. Alhambra in 1876, landing at Hokitika, en route for 'the Rumara goldfields. He later entered the drapery firm of Kirkcaiuie and Staines, Wellington, being on the staff for some ,time. Eventually he joined the staff of Galloway and Co., Picton, as manager of their Havelock branch, and was for" some; time senior partner in the mercery firm of Browne and Eyes, •Picton. Eventually.he opened.a business in Blenheim, which be carried on for 40 years, recently retiring on a well earned competency. ,
