Mi- Editor, through having a notice of a registered letter placed before delivery, and oa to the G.P.O finding there vrns nothing there to claim. Well, being tho victim of such .a notiro of a registered letter, I found ©n going round to the Pest Office there was no letter for mo "to sign for, but eMdenoe has gon-3 to show that it w w a. joke. I do not know whether .the lest. Office consider it a joke to leave blank registered letter notices _ lying on t-bo street for anvone to-fill in, but .I happoned to be the person to whom ibe notice was delivered. ' 1 rusting tho G.P.O. will bo more careful in future. —Yours, c^, inconvenienced. A copy of tho above letter was shown to the. Chief Postmaster, who stated in reply: Tho cards notifying private boxholders that a. registered postal packet awaits them ure not addressed to any person except when the registered podtitl packet is addressed to some perron care of the firm. It therefore happens, that there tvre more cards out tivin there are registered articles to l>e delivered. The cards are not delivered by postmen: they are only put in private boxestherefore a person not renting_ a privats box is not entitled to receive these cards. If a person, or firm, renting a private box gives, one of the cards to a person not entitled to receive it the povtr.l authorities ' cannot be lield responsible. fto registered postal nacket is handed owr till proof of identity is furnished. It is probable that the instano? leierred i to in "Inconvenienced's" letter is an isolated one. Tho department cannot be held responsible for the joke played on "Inconvenienced."
