Dave Pretty, champion axeman of the world, received a challenge from W. Pech, of Victoria, to chop a twofoot white pine log for £2OO aside, the winner to take all. As a guarantee of bona fides, £IOO deposit has been paid down. The challenge has been accepted, and the match will come off at Hamilton on September 20. The cuallenger is a man standing 6ft 4in in height, and weighing 16st 81b. Pretty himself stands 6ft 4in, so that it should be a case of Greek meeting Greek. Pretty holds the world's record 3min. 34 l-ssec, for chopping through a 2ft white pine log, and also holds the record for the 15in log, 341-osec. It is understood that \v hyte, the champion of Tasmania whom Pretty defeated in the Town Hall, Wellington, a f<»w weeks back, is anxious for another match, and as Pretty is more than willing, this may come off in Wellington shortly.
