HEATHCOTE AND WAIMAIRI INCLUSION. POLL TO BE TAKEN. The Mayor on Saturday received the following letter from the Hon. >v. Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs, relative to the inclusion of certain new areas in the city territory : "With reference to the proposal to include certain portions of the Heathcote and Waimairi counties in the city of Lhristchurch and aiso the prot-Oiai to include a portion of the A\aimairi county in the borough of lticcarton, i have now to inrorm you tliat 1 have carefully considered the whole question, together wifch the reports recently made by the Commission, which considered each proposal, but before taking any further action I have decided to recommend the Governor-General that a poll of ratepayers bo taken over each area. "This poll will be taken over those areas which the Commission have recommended for inclusion, as there is nj power under the existing law to take it over any other than that recommended by the Commission in view of the provisions of Section 132 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920. 1 will arrange for this decision to be communicated to the various local bodies and others interested in the alterations and Wi.i consult with the local bodies as to suitable persons for appointment as returning officer in each case."
