PILFERING OF GOODS.
RAILWAY PREVENTIVE MEASURES IN ENGLAND.* (By Csu>>—Press Association—Copyright.) (Australian and Cable Association.^ LONDON, May 19. The railway authorities of England consider that, as a result of the new methods, the worst- phase of pilfering has passed. Last year's loss was £1,900,000. The nefr methods include the sealing ot vans, uniformed police patrols at various depots, wire binding for boxes and packages, and the removal of the consignor's name and any indication of the contents. The newest device has been satisfactorily tested, police do<*s enabling the pilferers to be caught red-handed.
