Old Boyß, who held the Rugby supremacy locally, similarly to their Christchurch confreres, were well beaten by Sjtars yesterday by 37 points to 5. Great public interest was taken in tie match. Steele, for the winners, showed splendid form. Two Marist players were ordered off by the referee for breaches of rules, this adding to Marists' task. The crowd approved the referee'sfirm interpretation of the rules, the observance of which has become somewhat lax on the Ooast.

KICK-INTO-TOUCH RULE. REFEREES' INTERPRETATIONS. Interpretations of the new rule regarding kicking-in to-touch have been given by the executive of the New Zealand Rugby- Referees' Association as follows: (1) If the ball touches an opponent before going out on the full it shall be regarded as having landed in the field of play. (2) If a player takes the ball outside his own twenty-five and 'runs back inside the ttventy-five to kick .it out 'oil the lull, the line-out shall take place opposite the spot from which'he ran back. . (8) If a player kicks tho ball out on the full in the direction of hi* own goaWine, tho advantage xule'is.to apply, and the lineout is to take place where the ball goee out. The Maoris had by far the best of. the first spell, which ended 15 points to 10 in their favour, while in the second half they more than held their own. They possess some very fast backs, and are expected to make a good showing in Australia. The Auckland team was not up to full/ strength, five of the men originally selected being unable to play.
