Tlie Vatican memorial requesting that any agreement sought with ltussui should secure religious tolerance, freedom of worship, and security of religious property in Russia, was dismissed to-day. M. Bartliou (Franco) moved its reference to the sub-commission. Mr Lloyd George said. there was 110 stronger supporter of religious freedom than himself. The subject had been fv matter of conflict everywhere. Ho suggested an enquiry to ascertain the real position in Russia. M. Jaspar (Belgium) pressed the Holy See's request. :\lr Lloyd George replied that he did not see what action could bo taken without infringing Russia's rights. Ho agreed the Note should be referred to the sub-Commission. The Pope had been a good friend to the Conference, and ho was quite certain he would not press the memorial to a point which might endanger the peace of Eastern Europe.
