MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the S.P.C.A. was tald last evening. Air J. O. Jameson pre"ir'B. D. Martin attended the meeting, in order to explain the position in regard to a, city lethal chamber. He askod lor too support of tho Society in the movement to establish such a chamber. . The chairman stated* that the Society enquiring* fully into the matter, and had written to the Ruyal Society at Home, wbicn had, it was reported, discontinued the lethal chamber. The Society had been asked to forward the latest information availably. . Mr Martin was thanked for his interest m the question, and withdrew. The Town Clerk wrote, stating that tile question of' renewing the City Council's grant to the Association had been pcetponoa till the estimates wera prepared. It waa mentioned that in Sydney there wasa fine of £lO imposed by the by-laws on; anyone allowing a female dog to wander in the city. It was decided to write to the I'own Clerk of Sydney for a copy of the by-law on tho subject. The financial statement, showing a balance of £64 IGa lid, was received. The Inspector read his monthly repott, and a general discussion took place on. the conditions prevailing in certain premises in and around the city. Martin, who presented a petition to the City Council on Monday night, asking for the erection of a lethal chamber for the destruction of animals, has received a letter from the secretary of the "Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, advising that the committee of that Society considers the working of tie lethal chamber in Wellington satisfactory, and that the method adopted is the most humane that can be devised for the painless destruction of dogs and the working of it i<3 simple and successful. The letter aleo states that the Society considers the destruction of dogs by drowning is not hy any means a satisfactory way of disposing of them.
