LOOPHOLE IN A LAW.
CORPORATION'S ESCAPE. LONDON, March 29. A flaw in the Grand Jury Suspension Act resulted in the Court of Criminal Appeal quashing the conviction of the Daily Mirror Company, and upholding the appellants contention that it is impossible under the Act to commit a corporation for, trial. Mr Justice Shearman said that the draftsman, of the Bill, forgot all about corporations,- anad left a littla _ hole, through which the "Daily Mirror" was able to- creep, but the point did not affect the general'law regarding corpora The'appeal of the "Daily Mirror" employee against his conviction was dismissed.. '-; The conviction of the \Daily Mirror: Company and of one of its employees in the circulation department was for a violation of the Representation of the People's Act by placarding the East Herts constituency in the recent byelection with contents bill supporting Rear-Admiral Sueter, the Anti-Waste oandidate, who was elected. The defendant company pleaded ihat its object was merely to increase circu-, lation, but "was fined £IOO- The employee in the circulation department was fined £2O. His conviction, according to the cablegram, still Btands, but the company how goes free.
