ORGANISATION OF PROTESTANT BODIES. (PRESS .ASSOCIATION TELEGEAII.) AUCKLAND, April 15. The annual session of the Loyal Orange Institution of New Zealand was preceded by a session of the Provincial Black Chapter of Ireland. The Provincial Grand Master, the Rev. Knowles Smith, presided. He said the past year had been a memorable one. The Ulster Protestants had faced the changes involved in the British Government's proposals with a true spirit, and an earnest desire to co-oper-ate in all measures leading to the peace and prosperity of then- land. So lar as the miignts of Ireland were concerned, the utmost would be done for, and given to, their brethren across the sea., .bet them make known their need, and the Now Zealand Knights would prove to the full extent the uouds of brotherhood. He expressed the belief that "the cause of Protestantism would be carried forward to complete victory against the disintegrating forces now prominent." He emphasised the necessity for greater organisation of Protestant voters, in view of the General Election in this Dominion. It was decided to make overtures to other Protestant Associations with a view to united action at the polls. The following ollicers were elected and installed:—Provincial Grand Master, Bro. Treasurer, Bro. Dickinson, Dunedin; Deputy Grand Treasurer, Bro.- Steptoe, Wellington; P.G. Lecturers, Bros. White, Wellington, and Galbraith, Auckland; P.G. Censors, Bros. Pittam, Auckland/, and .'Agmsv/, linrercarg'iU; Standard Bearers, Bros. Upton, Petone, and Eade, Auckland; Pursuivant, Bro. Stubberfield, Christchurch; G. -Inspector of Workings, Bro. Noble; P.P. The annual meeting of Grand Lodge, L.0.1., of New Zealand,, was opened this morning, the, Grand Master (R.W. the Rev. G. ICnawles Smith) presiding. Two hundred delegates attended. In his report the Grand Master made further reference, to Irish affairs; • So far as the Orange institution in the Dominion was concerned, they had every reason to be grateful for the evident signs of awakening to the claims of Protestantism which were being manifested through the length and breadth of the land. Considerable advance had- been made by the Opening of netf lodges and the influx, of members into existing' lodges. He was- pleased to note that the number of ladies' lodges was increasing very rapidly. There was a growing demand for juvenile lodges. The increase of lodge libraries and the evident desire to accumulate information, by the purchase of Protestant literature was gratifying. The Grand 'Secretary's report stated that during the fourteen years since the formation of Grand Lodge, much, progress had been made jn> raising the Order to a greater state of efficiency and making its mission more _ clearly understood and appreciated. Since the last annual meeting, twelve new war-, rants had been issued and one re-issued, maßing ten male and -three - female lodges on the register, and three applications for female warrants had still to be dealt with.
