It is officially announced that Mr J>. K. Pritchard has been chosen as tHe Labour Party's nominee to contest the Hutt seat the General Election. Mr Pritchard Unsuccessfully opposed Mr T. M. Wiiford, Leader ot the Opposition, three years ago. Mr W. S. Pratt, who held an important position on the National Mortgage Company's staff, and was also Assistant Wheat Cpntroller under the Government, has been appointed General Manager of the Northern Roller Mills, Auckland.

Dr. Ernest Boxer, of it<sc'l\gs, late president of the Returned iioidiers' Association, who has been on an extended visit to England and Scotland, has informed his friends at Hastings that he expected to leave England about the end of March, and would be back in New Zealand during May.

Captain A. H. Carrington, who has relinquished the position of Area Officer in the Blenheim Defence Office, was entertained this week by the officera of the Marlborough district, and several N.Z.E.F. officers and presented with a leather suitcase and a travelling rug. Several speakers made mention of the Captain s interest in local organisations and wished him success in the future.

Paisley, M.A.. of the Investigation Staff ot the Industries and Commerce Department, ia resigning from the Public Service to accept the position of secretary of the Goldberg Advertising Agency, Ltd. It took the form of a very handsome, case of pipes and was made on behalf of the pharmacy utaff by Mr C- Burt, and on behalf of the soda fountain stuff by Mrs Bates; both made reference to the arfod reeling which had existed between Mr Parnham and the members of both staffs during the seven years he was manager, of Ahe business.

The atafr of the South British Insurance Company, Ltd., met on Thursday morning to bid farewell to Mr T. A. B. Grant who has been transferred to the Auckland branch of the company. In presenting Mr Grant with a handsome leather travelling trunk, the manager, Mr P. H. Harris, wished the recipient God speed and all success in his new sphere of work and congratulated him on receiving the appointment and the opportunities it offered. Mr Grant, in responding, thanked all for their gift and expressed his appreciation of the loyalty and assistance shown him by all members of the staff. A very pleasing, ceremony took place in llidgely Hall, when P.O.M. Bro. W. Hunter, niadfe a presentation of Past Grand's Collars to Bros, W. and R. Joughin, for conspicuous services of 1.0.0. F. Bro. Groenthute nad 'shown marked ability as financial secretary —the books being kept accurately and well —rendering the work of %he auditor easy. The lodge enteri prises in social and fraternal functionswere carried to successful issues, mainly by his unsparing efforts and assiduous attention to detail. BrO. Joughin's gratuitous services also merited special recognition, so highly were they appreciated. Thoy were evidenced in the handsome Roll of Honour, and in tho artistic banner used by the chaplain for symbolic purposes during initiations. The recipients, who were greeted with musical honours, suitably responded. Mr J, M. A. Ilott, managing director of J. Hott, Ltd., left Wellington by tho Tahiti ou Tuesday for tne United States, England, and the Continent. Prior to his departure he was made the recipient of a Kaiapoi travelling rug, bearing his monogram, and presented by the combined staffs of the Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin offices of the company. Mr W. L. Chapman, manager, in making the presentation, referred to the wonderful growth of the organisation, and to the Sigh standard pf efficiency attained in All sections, both of which facts testified to Mr Ilott's able directorship and organising ability. The rug, he said, was only a slight tangible expression of the esteem in which Mr Ilott was held by all members of the staffs at Wellington and branch offices. Mr J. W. Smyth, Christchurch manager, farewelled Mr Ilott on behalf of the Christchurch staff, and apologies from Auckland and Dunedin branch managers were received. Mr Ilott, in responding expressed his appreciation of the spirit ■>f .camaraderie which existed amongst the executives and staff-they were a big happy family. The staff also took the opportunity of presenting Mrs EIlott, a director of the company, with a trained group of indvdual photographs or the executives and branch managers, as a mark of their goodwill and loyalty. Mrs J. M. A. Uotfe, who accompanies Mr Ilott on the tour, was handed morocco-bound diary, with suitably embossed cover. The gatherJug concluded with many expressions of goodwill for the travellers, who expect to be away from the Dominion for about six months.
