PRESBYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.
By invitation of the teachers ..o! .the Rangiora Presbyterian Sunday School- the Christchurch' Presbyterian Sunday School Union held its annual Eastei; .conference ■at Kangiora yesterday. Members of the Union, connected with the city and suburban schools to the. number of- about 70, journeyed to Bangiora, by the northern express, and-were cordially welcomed on arrival. Tho day's proceedingswere .opened , with a. servioo ip j£qox Church, and th«, taembers of to® Pres* byterian Young "Woman's' Bible classes, who were'"olso in conference, in- tho-town, > being in attendance, the church was wall, filled. The service was conducted by the Kev. W. U. H6we»," who' extended • very warm welcome to both the . Sunday - school : teachers , and i Bible class members. The sermon was preached by the Rev. J. B; Bickerttftff, who i took for "his text our Saviour's last words : from the Cross, "It is finished." After the service the visitors partook -of f an aliresco lunch in Victoria Park. At 3 p.m. they reassdnbled in' the church for a meeting , under the presidency of Mr T. W. B 'Hitt, vico- : president ■ the Union. -An address, was ; given by Miss C. Menries, descriptive of her ' kindergarten - teaehiag in the infants' departmcnt of tho Ashburton,- Sunday school, and • Mr J. Voss .followed with an address entitled "Ear ,Gato;and Eye Gate, illustrative spiritual teaching." Both of tbe * addresses were'of an eminently practical character, calculated to instruct -and stimulate the teachers iu their work. ' Before dosing the meeting, Mir Hitt thanked Mr C. D.. Gibson, superintendent of, the Rangiora Sunday school, and his .staff for theic invitation to-visit the town, and the arrangements* mads for their comfort and entertainment. An. adjournment was then made to the- Park for tea before returning -to tho city by the evening train.
