H.Godby, Fendalton, for the golf tournament. Miss Humphreys (Fendalton) returned yesterday to Christchurch from a visit to England. Mr and Mrs T. B. X. Seddon will arrive at "Greymouth to-day from South Westland. Miss Nora Campbell left Wellington by the Tahiti yesterday for New York, where'her marriage to Captain Harne takes place. Their future home will be in Monte Video. Mrs H. J. Beawick and Miss Theo Beswick have returned to Christchurch, after a two years' visit to England. Miss C. Beswick has gone to stay with Mr 3 Greenwood on the Cashmere Hills. Mrs Frank Brittan has returned to Christchurch from the North Island, where she has been staying with her niece, Mrs Wilson, at Pahiatua. Mr and Mrs H. W.- Kitchingham arrived from Greymouth last night and are staying at the Royal Hotel.

Mr and Mrs B. L. Blunden, "Waikari, are visitors at Haereinai, Sumner. Mr and Mrs Sidney Lawrence have returned from a visit to Rakaia Huts. Amongst visitors to Christchurch for Easter is Miss Nancy Robison (Nelson),, who is staying with Mrs J. D. MiUton,, Garden road, Fendalton. Mr and Mrs F. "W. Freeman, and Miss Cookson will spend Easter at Hanmer. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Robinson intend spending the holidays at Akaroa. Mr and Mrs J. E. P. Cameron (TTmaru) motored to Christchurch yesterday and are staying at the Clarendon. Mrs and Miss Linton (Melbourne) arrived from, the "West Coast last evening and are staying at the United Service. Mrs Alan Orbell and Mrs Gillies returned yesterday to Waikouaiti. Mr and Mrs Godfrey Hall (Hororata) and Miss M. North (Newquay, England), are at the United Service. Recent arrivals at "Warner's include Mr and Mrs Graham Browne, Mrs I. Bristol (Peel Forest), and Mrs J. Loudon (Sydney), Mr and Mrs F. "W. Chesebrough (New York) and Mr-and Mrs H. K. "Wilkinson (Dunedin), arrived in Christchurcli last and are staying at the United Service. Mr and Mrs Jack Palmer, Rangiors,, are spending the Easter holidays ia. town. Miss E. "W. Guy (Ashley Bank), will he spending the Easter holidays with Mrs H. Rosanowski, Opawa. Tho dresses worn by Miss Marie Tempest in "Tea for Three" at the Theatre Royal last night were well worth going to see. In the second ac't, she wore a gorgeouß evening gown of richest satin, the corsage being composed entirely of silver diamente and the skirt wired on the hips to give a crinoline effect, having a double row of embossed roses near the hem, while the brilliant girdle was finished with a long jade and silver tassel hanging below the skirt. Over this charming frock was a handsome velvet cape of beajvor shade, with funnel-shaped fur collar and two huge golden motifs. In the last act, she wore a draped frock of ivoiy georgette, with four pointed panels much longer than the skirt ? while from the shoulders hung a cape-like drape of georgette, outlined with beautiful lace and effectively embroidered with jade green.

The kindergarten sale which is to he opened in Victoria square this morning promises to be a great success. The members of the Sydenham Committ<!e have charge of the children's clothing stall, and the Phillipstown Committee will have a great display of beautiful flowers, which should find ready sale at this time of the year. The oak© and toy stall will be presided over by the Selwyn Committee, the variety stall is in charge of the "Little Citizen" Committee, while the members of the Sunbeam Committee have a really wonderful collection of boudoir and dust caps. A jolly little surprise dance was held at the Ihorae of Mrs Howard James on Saturday evening. Among those, who spent a. delightful time dancing were Mrs Carlton (Samoa), Misses Kathleen Banks, M. Crawshaw, Alma and Winny Cox, T. Ward, Beryl James, Esrnie Lamb, V. Wiokes, Peggy and Maisie James, White, Venabies, Mona. and Constance Bethune, Messrs Sinclair, Bridgeman, Robertson, Jackson, Lamb, R. Walker, Bouglas Cox, H! Ron<vld*on, L. Le Cren, M. Davidson, C. Miss Netta Reid, eldest daughter of the Rev. J. Swanson Reid (Dunsnndel), was tho guest of the ladies of the Biookeide |*resbyterian Church at a "miscellaneous afternoon" iheld at "We«t'burn," the residence of Mrs W. B. Cunningham, Brookside. Miss Reid, wlo is shortly to be married, recipient of many useful and varied gifts, and a most enjoyabjte afternoon" was spent. The time passed all ti>o quickly with croquet, competitions, aiid musical items; songs were contributed by Mrs Croy and Misses J. and A. B. Cunningham. A delicious afternoon tea was served by Mrs Cunningham,-after which the guest received the heartiest good wishes for her future happiness and prosperity. The weekly sale of home-made cakes, produce, etc., in aid ot the Lewisham General Hospital Bazaar, will be held in the vestibule of the Grand Theatre to-morrow morning, instead of Saturday. A large and varied assortment of attractive goods will be sold at reasonable prices. The stallholders of Nurse Maude's stall will be in charge." A meeting of the committee of the Little Citizens' Kindergarten was held yesterday. Present: Miss M. Macdonald (in the diiair), Mrs Cocks, Mrs McCracken, and Miss Wood. It was reported that the. rfumber of children now on the roll is 39, and subscriptions for the month of March were £3 3s 6d. As a result of a meeting of the Mothers' Guild, a most enjoyable. social evening was held on Monday, April 3rd. A pleasant time was spjnt with round games, music, and some clever tricks given by one of the parents. ! Supper brought the evening to a clast>. Last evening more than 150 girls assembled for a banquet in the iE.VV.O.A.| Club-rooms, which were most tastefully j decorated with flowers and streamers, j the tables were beautiful with autumn leaves and laden with party fare. The proceedings were characterised by gaiety and camaraderie, songs and choruses being interspersed shrough the | toast .list. Miss l&sie Butcher acted as j toast mistress. The toast of "The King and Queen" was proposed by Mrs George Bowron. Miss Bachelor propos-J ed the health of Miss Jean Stevenson, the guest of honour, all the girls joining in a chorus composed for the occa-j sion. ■ The toast of "The Leaders of the Association" was proposed by Miss Florrie Sharman, and responded to by Mrs Robert Malcolm, on behalf of the Board j of Directors, and Miss Muriel Jones on behalf of the members council. Mis 9 Tui Eldridge spoke to the toast of "The Australian Y.W.C.A." and Miss; Stevenson, in reply, explained the modern conception of the Association as a selfrgoverning finite purpose of community service. In the final lecture on Leadership t which followed, Miss Stevenson dealt with the programme and constitution of clubs, j emphasising the necessity for expression | and real self-government in all such matters as club activities, control of club finance, election of officers. It i was announced that Professor Shelley I has consented to follow up this leadership course by a series of lectures on Education Psychology, so far as it es-, pecially concerns work in girls' clubs.

Cameron, M6xham avenue, Hataitai, Wellington, A delightful jazz evening was held at Mrs Walton-Hallfs residence last| Monday, to celebrate the coming of ago of her son, Keith. The ballroom was prettily decorated with pink and mauvo flowers, and the supper table in blue; flowers. Miss E. Sherwood's full orchestra supplied delightful music for dancing. The death is announced of Mi s Henrietta Palmer, who had been connected with the Auckland Telephone Exchange for, the last 30 years, and had been supervisor for npmy years. She was the fifth daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Henry Palmer, of Nort&cote, and sister of tho late Mr Jaokson Palmer, Judge'of the Native Land Court. slis3 Palmer was due to retire on superannuation on the day of her death, which was due to gastric influenza following a severe attack of rheumatic fever. The fourth Dominion camp of the Young Women*s Methodist B bl© Class union at Larnach's Castle, Otago Peninsula, which will open on April 13th, will be attended by 160 delegate* from all over the Dominion. The Rev. C. H. Laws, president of the conference, and Sister Maude Coleman, of England, will attend. / -SOCIAL WELFARE-GUILD. A meeting of the Social Welfare Guild was held en Monday evening at the Y.M.C.A. There was a good attendance, and Mrs H. F. Herbert presided. Members have been working for «ome time for a sale of work to be held in the Masonic Hall towards the end of the month.. Reports were received front the various skill-holders. At. present there are so many calls for assistance from needy families that the members are anxious to raise a good sum to C3rry : on the jjvork during the winter. The president reported that Mr E. E. Langley had offered to paint a picture, and that a gold nugget had been secured. Mrs Holmes, president of the Harbour Lights Club, had offered to run the entertainments at the fancy fair.
