Fighting speeches were essential, as the audience,- if not exactly hostile, was hostile in certain respects. Tho time limit must be strictly observed. Time must be allowed for interruptions. The speakers that evening required more vigour and earnestness. Tlie audience must be interested at all costs. Colloquialisms must be avoided as affording good openings to facetious members of tho audience. Mr Taylor Briefly criticised the various speeches, and concluded by expressing the hope that the Society's representatives would again win tho contest.
