PICNICS.

CITY COUNCIL STATP. The annua! picnic given by fho Mayor and Mayoress of Christclnirch to tho City Council office took place at Pigeon Bay on Saturday. Although the weather proved threatening in the morning, the afternoon was beautifully fine, and tho pickndckcrs thoroughly enjoyed thoir day out. The party, numbering 130, proceeded to Lyttelton by tho 7.55 a.m. train, and wero conveyed to Pigeon Bay by the tug Lyttelton, which tho Harbour Board hau granted the use of for tho occasion. An awning had been erected on the after-deck of the tug, and extra scats provided, making the trip to and from tho bay very pleasant for those on board. On arrival at Pigeon Bay the party wero met by Dr. and Mr.3 Thacker, who had journeyed overland by car. Games were held in a field near the beach, and afterwards tho party wero entertained at lunch in tho large public hall, which tho residents of tho bay have erected during tho past year. Afternoon tea was a'.6o served in the hall. Tho sports events resulted as follows;

Coiupotnion (ladies), SGJyds: Mips Bampton 1, Miss Bruorton 2. Wheelbarrow Race: Miss Bampton and T. Kelson 1.

Cra.b Race: Miss Gopperth and R. J, McGee 1. Potato Race—Ladies: Miss Bampton 1. Men: H. S. Feast 1, R. D. Martin 2.

Waltzing—Best couple: Miss E. S. Jarman and B. S. Knox. Best individual lady: Mi?s Gopperth. Best individual man: B. Ball 1.

Tho Mayor thanked Mr Knox for organising tho snorts.

WOOLSTON TANNERIES. The annual picnic cf the Wo'jlston Tanneries was one of the most, successful tho company haa ever held. Eleven or twelve hundred people journeyed to Little River under perfect weather conditions, and during the day eports were provided for young and old, and every child received a toy. Tho Christchurch Pipo Band and Derry'a Band provided sorao excellent music during 'the day. Praise must be given to the committee for tho way they worked to mike the picnic a success.
