SPORTING.

Nominations : for the Cheviot Racing Club's Annual Meeting close on Tuesday next.

The > SJf&r and Marlborough Meetings will ~e" concluded to-day. The acceptances for the Eoeond day's racing at Blenheim augur well for a successful conclusion of the north circuit. The first day's winners have gone up considerably in tho scale, and it should be left for tfhose that were in tho minor places to provido to-day's winners.

The V.Tt.C. Meeting will bo concluded at Flemincrton tn-.'lay Tbu principal event is the King's Plato, a two-mile weight-for-age race, in which all the cracks are engaged. Tho Welkin two-year-olds are proving well-nigh invincible at Flcmington; indeed, with one exception, youmrsu-rs by Mr 33. E. D. Clarke's great horse have won all tho two-year-old races tho meeting, and in tho March Nursery on Thursday all the placo-fiilers were by The Welkin.

Tho nominations for the C.J.C. Great Easter and Great Autumn Handicaps 1 show an increase on last year of eleven and six respectively, or a total increaso of seventeen. The entries must lie regarded as excellent, with more than tho usual proportion of North Islanders than is customary for tho Autumn fixture. Class is well represented by "Winning Hit, Anomaly, Chimera, Grotesque, Marqueteur, Foo Chow, Insurrection, Palostrina, Sunny Lotih, Pluto, and Sycorax.

It is noteworthy that the names oi' Pluto. Egotism, and Vespucci appear in tho nomination lists, for both tho Christchureh and Auckland Easter Meetings.

■ Tho nominations received by tho Auckland Racing Club for its two principal events at Easter time arc very good, both in numbers and quality. Silver Peak, Sunny Loch, Egotism, Vespucci, ftnd Pluto represent the South Island, the groat majority of tho Worses enlaced coming from Auckland, Hawke's Bay, and Taianaki. Sunray, "tho winner of the Omaranui Hurdles at iNapier yesterday, is a six-year-old bay gelding by Fort William— Dazzling, Early in the season Sunray established 9 great record for consistency, for in his fir6t nine races lie won seven and was second in tho remaining two. His next six starts provided two second?, which, added' to Jim win yesterday ; make the son of Fort William appear a vcry -useful sort. Dazzling, the dam of Sunrav, is by Sir Lancelot—Dazzlo by Hotckis.9—llndiant Tiy Robinson Cnisoe,'so a. half-sister to California, and Goldfinder.

Communicate, tl»s -h inner of tho Esk Hack Handicap is o three-year-old bay gelding by Gazelej*—Communique. Yesterday's race provided hia second won in six. stafts this season. , The Napier Clip winner, Sycprax, has .'.unluoky in £ood handicaps' sin c e winning the principal race on the second day of the" Hawke's Day Bummer Meeting; - Syporaa, wJio is a five-year-#3 tyack mare by King ajark—Witchet, ian, lweli ftt the Wellington Cup meetsigns, one I She was es in the itlifyi; and ick of the ;ootl class ted : ahovo . tho first; fir of the ■ by Oj'mea fit* tho Mijs season, SB, having em starts, Ming five a JSpnny,, srts, a poa Bpnown, i. fefciWe* \ WW tow,

E. Widener, is hoping this year to achieve one of his greatest ambitions, to own :be winner of the cross-country blue riband. Duettiste could not be in better hands, for ho is the only representative of the formidable Lewes stable presided over by B. Escott. Dyettiste will bfr ridden bv A. Escott, son of the trainer. and is set to carry list 121b, Sir Huon being top weight with 12ft "lb- Last yerr's'winner, iShawn Spadah, Ims 12.-t 31b. Richard W'octton demonstrated at the last Moorefield Meet'Hyx (X.Cs.W.) that he has lost none of his craft, for liw brought- oft a MKecpsfu i coup •with the fntir-war-olfl English fillv, Peronilla, bv Lonowand —I'rclnkn. The staff work in the betting ring was worthy of the master-hand, and the filly went from au outside price t» a firm favourite by sheer weight of money. Mulcnhy, the latest apprentice in Australia to show promise, has gone the shiiy> way ah other nottble Australian horsemen or late. _ I 1 vo months suspension for i: c-utting ill" ct Moorefiehl was his lot.

The latest achif-verner.f) of the champion Australian pony Precious Dust _ is to win the 1-1.2 Hnndicp'o r'; Ascot wit.N 12st, tasting the half mile behind in -18ijsoc-. '•Archer," in the ''Australasian," says that not since Carbine'b Melbourne Cup has any horse received guch a. Reception as did Eurvthmic after .his Futurity Stakes victorv. In describing the finish he says that Wish Wynne hung on tenaciously, but as Eurythmic does not draw away in races, once lie has a race in hand, it was difficult to judge whether bo was all out or not. B. Lewis evidently does not agree with the stipendiary stewards on the question of .looking round, his last difference of opinion costing him £lO This was on Hosina, for when oasi'y winning the V.A- ' C. Alnia. Stakes, he looked round several times in the straight. This last was the third offence, for Lewis had teen first of all warned, and was then fined £5 for trying to find the rest of the field when Furious was winning tho V.R.C. Oaks.

Eileen Dii'ion vp« sent out & warm, order for the Trial Handicap, with which proceediiig opened, and j'latiueci tlio coiiftd&iK© placed in her, for she was first to gel into her stride, and wa3 never hoadod. A smasn in front of the stand somewhat spoiled the race. Bann Zolock. when racing through the £ald to get ua with the leaders, camm into collision with'Piita Wood, and Lady Beldon fell over the wreck. The winner was driven) tvilh a lot in reserve, and could havo put up faster time if anything had extended her. Pear! Coronado was a good favouritp Jor the Waterlea Handicap, but spoilt ncr chances with a flerics of bad breaks in th® first half-mile, and. after getting to within' striking distance at the tail end of the race, failed when extra pressure was called foT.' Wyoming, who was given very little chqnce by the public, got into her 6tride at tho fail of tlio flag-, and had a nice Mead from Harewood and Plain Rose when tho straight was reached. Thenceforward alio was never in danger. Half a mile from tho finish Wirey, Plain Koso, and Pearl Coronado were all in a bunch behind tho leader, and in tha last few ttrides Bhio Star, coming from' the back, headed Plain Rosa for second place. The winner, who paid a very nice price, is a useful mare, and showed plenty of pace.

The Stewards' Handicap saw another disappointment for the nubjjc, who made fhtf Cheviot mare Tiny Moon a very warm favourite. She was in a bad mood, however, refused to psftle down, and took no Teal part Jn the race. Ladv Tory, followed by Major Election, was soon well clear oi the field, and tho former, trotting very steadily, m marked contrast to her .Nelson performance, won with tho greateset of ease by twenty lengths. Major Election, wiieit challenged for second money by Asia in the straight, brol?o badly and allowed Aeja to get the verdict by half a length. Victor Hora was fohrOi. Bothmoor and Lynj( trotted badly, and Asia/ spoilt her ch&nce at the start,

There wero heavy acratchings in the Marlborough Handicap, but still a iiel4 of eight paraded, of whom Leila Demver was established favourite, Doily Dillon, Progress, and Taxation being the outsiders of tho ,field). Progress and Kate Zolock started sinartly, whilo Leila Denver, thd favourite refused to strike a gait, 4iid mado hor position hopeless from tho start- When half a roilo ha<J been covered Progress had drawn fewfty trom Jiate Zoiofk, most prominent of the others being Dolly Dillon and Aprea Moi, When half tho journey had beon covered Progress was well clear of Kate at u. considcrablo distance coming Dolly Dillon and Aprea Moi together. JYom this out mattora woro easy lox Progress. Dolly Dillon put in a fine run over th© last threw furlongs, and drew ahosd of Kate Uolock and Proud, Logajj, but jt was unavailing, .ua Progress had a lot in hand, and won comfortably by seven lengths in tho smart time of 4min 47 3-sth sec, thereby im.prorjnsr on bis handicap timo by ove r ten seconds. ' Proud Logan was fourth. Tho Winner is trained at Nelson by L. Berbett, the trainer of tlio record aividcnd-payer, )Vairos. Belle.
