Roots, of Hawera, by dogged, determine shooting this morning, made it imp o3 ® l 6 for any other competitor to overtake • He had 4 points lead when the final 1 6 J® at 600 yards were taken, and by out of 50, put the issue beyond doubt West, by scoring 49, made a brilliant effor overtake Roots, and although ca 'f witti half of his leeway, had to be content witn o'clock, when the lowest -0 in. t went to the mounds at 900 y»f»- /? best score in this match was made by • .j Turner, of Wellington Suburbs, who P on 49, and looked like winning {he Hi» Challenge Cup. At 9 a.m the remaining 30 competitors commenced their task in P on 15 target*. Roots shot wi h Loveday on Wo. 1 target, West with Eyles on No 8, Pimm with Keilson on No. 5, and Halm with Barkle on No. 7, and tee, targe* naturally drew most attention. * Hoots, apparent that the issue was be three West, and Halmshaw. Loveday, who shot with Roots, after starting with ah inner, piled on nine bullseyes with the remainder, and won the Rifle Challenge Cup. R. Piper, of Christchurch, started well with 55545, but tuen found the edge of- the target, and finished with a total of 45, including a magpie lor his last shot. Roots, the champion, who had made good his claim to again have his name engraved on the Ballingsr Champion Rifle Belt.
