BANOIORA. Light rain fell in the North Canterbury district yesterday. It was very acceptable after the extreme heat, experienced during the last few days. Mr C. G. M. Boyce, who has been appointed headmaster of the Rangiora public school in succession to Mr T. \V. Ambrose, retired, took up his duties yesterday. ALLENTON. A meeting of the All en ton Football Club was held on Tuesday night, Mr J. Heniderson presiding. It was decided to accept tlie use of a paddock for practice purposes on Middle road, and to thank Mrs Moriarty for the offer of same. Mr W. Page was elected coach. Mr James Smith was appointed delegate to the Rugby Union. Mr A. Thompson gave art address on the rules of the game, and was accorded a vote of thanks.. AKAROA. After four days of excessively hot weather, a change 6et in late on Sunday night, a light rain commencing to fall. It continued more or loss pt intervals throughout the day, with heavy showers occasionally. As far as comfort is concerned, it was a welcome change from the heat, though it has necessitated another break ,in the cocksfoot harvest, where threshing operations were approaching an end. EAKAIA. Preparations are well in hand for the annual Autumn Show of the Rakaia Horticultural Society, to be held in Mr. Tucker's Hall to-day. Though the entries are not quite up to the numbers of last year, which was a record, there is every prospect of a fine display. _ A- committee of ladies has been working energetically providing for the refreshment stall, the proceeds of which are this year to be devoted to the Society's funds. AViseman presiding, a scheme was adopted bv which it is hoped that sufficient funds will be raised to liquidate the present debt on the'vicarage, and purchase from the Church Property Trustees one acre of land adjoining the vicarage.
