PAREWELL TO MR J. O'DONOVAN.
(PRISS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.)
WELLINGTON, February 28
The whole of the city and suburban police fore© paraded to-day to '"<* farewell to IVIr John O'Donovan, late Commissioner. Eulogistic remarks were made respecting the late chief by Commissioner Wright, Superintendent Norwood, and Inspector Mcllveney. Each stressed the fact that Mr O'Donovan had endeared himself to every member of the force by his honesty of purpose and uprightness. Addressing the men, Mr 0 Donovan said he had spent most of his life in tho force and he had the honour to leave behind him a force that would be a credit to any country in tho world. He was satisfied that the public appreciated the work accomplished by the force. Addressing the officers, Mr 0 Donovan stated that there were strenuous times ahead, but he felt confident that they would be equal to any contingency that misrht arise. Mr O'Donovan was presented with a substantial cheque. Mr Madden, speaking for the Civil Service portion of the staff, paid a warm tribute to Mr O'Donovan for the courteous manner in which the staff had been treated. , Mr O'Donovan was deeplv atrected by the genuine feelings of regret expressed at his retirement.
