LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP.

Interest has been growing clay by day in the progress at Heretaunga of tho New Z*»' land ladies' golf championship, which reached the semi-final stage to-day, and will conclude with the final to-morrow. Mrs Guy 'Williams (Mosteiton) this morning beat .Miss N. Wright (Timani), last year's champion, .after a hard struggle, with varying fortunes, over a course rather heavy through the week-end rain. Conditions Benerally were in favour of Mrs Williams, whom the heavy course suited, but Mies Wright put up a gam* fight, and the full course wis played out, winning one up at the eighteenth hole. In the other semi-final, Mies M. Pajton (Auckland) had a • somewhat easier victory ever Miss Bell (Wellington), winning by 3 up and 3 to 'play. To-day's winners meet to-morrow in the final, whioh consist* of two rounds of the course, 36 holes in all. Mrs Williams, whose powerful driving told to-day, etarted or? well by winning the first two hole* in 4 and 5 and 5 and 8 respectively. The third hole woe halved in 4. Tine fourth went to Miss Wright in 4 against 6. At the fifth hole Mrs Williams was on the green, in on* with a fine drive. Miss Wright pulled her first shot, but recovered. Mire Williams holed out, in 3, winning' the hole. 2 up. Miss Wright nulled up one by winning the next hole, Mrs Williams being unfortunate with her fourth stroke. Sh\ took eix to Miss Wright's 6. At the eleventh Miss Wright was on thd green in two. Mrs Williams was slightly off the fairway with'her second, but successfully recovered the green. Miss Wright, won the hole in 4. Mrs Williams 1 up. The twelfth hole was won by Mrs Wil- ' Hams, and the thirteenth was halved. The fourteenth was won, by Miss Wright, who I had narrowly missed the hole with her second putt.'' She is a. noted , tennis player, and win good physical form. She has improved her golf' considerably of late; and suoceeded ■'■ in winning ■ tho Palmerston North championship this year, when she beat Mrs-Orbellinthe anal., Mrs Williams.has won both the Hawke's Bay and Manawatu ohampionahips, and is ~an . imperturbable matchi player, and drives a long ball, and makes lew mistakes.
