"THE PRESS" SICK FUND.
The thirty-eighth annual meeting of "The Press" Sick Fund was held yesterday, afternoon. Mr A. M. Hester occupied the.' chair in the unavoidable absence of Mr P. Solig. . The annual report stated that during the year the sum of £96 10g. (including £l2 10a death levy) had been distributed amongst eleven members, as against £BS 6e amongst fourteen members in the previous year. It .was with regret that'th© committee reported the death, in May last, of Mr C. L. Newnham, who for a number of years held the position of'reader on the newspaper staff.' A letter of condolence was sent to his widow. During Mr Newnham's illness both he and Mrs Newnham expressed their appreciation ©t the great advantage of the funct to members in time of sicknesß. The membership .etood at 7B senior and 1 junior members, the previous year's membership being 77 senior and 6 junior. The report was adopted. % The following committee was elected " for the ensuing year:—Messrs E. T. Gourlay (News and Stereo. Department), L. Taylor (Jobbing), C. Milne (Machine Room), G. Angus (Bindery), J. Watts (Lithe), G. H. Allen (Literary), J. Vivian (l-üblishing), G. Davison (Engineers). F. "W. Hotwso (Process), and Miss Hughes (Female Worker's).. Mr H. D. Ives was elected secretary.
The great onslaught What has been made on the rabbit 'in Maniotbto for the last year or two has greatly reduced its numbers (says an exchange). Places that were overrun before are now quite clear of the pest. A good many rabbiters are destroying valuable dogs aa they cannot get enough rabbits to ieed them.
