The Otira express; last evening ran into a man named Patrick Sullivan, who had fallen asleep on the railway track, hurling him into some scrub that skirted ' the line. As the express round a curve, the fireman noticed Sullivan less than twenty yards away, sitting on one of the lines, with his head propped up by his hands, his arms resting ,on his knees.. The emergency brake was applied, but the distance, was ; too short to bring the train to a halt. Sullivan was picked up: by the cow-catdher and thrown .into the air, landing in the scrub. Sullivan was carried on board the express on a stretcher and conveyed to Greymouth. Subsequently he was admitted to the Greymouth 'Hospital.
