At a meeting of the Wellington Branch of the Returned Soldiers* Association a spirited discussion toakplaco regarding the proposal made to tho Canteen Funds Disposal Board that the first year's interest from tho canteen funds, which now amount* to £116,000, should be devoted to n*|itdcfence and propaganda. Strong opposition was shown to the proposal, which it was said was engineered by "« etoall olique." It was also alleged that a section was endeavouring to use tho Association for political purposes. Eventually, on the motion of exCaptain Sierwright, seconded by exColonel G. Hall, it was decided that, while reaffirming it's loyalty, and appreciating the necessity for a Strong navy, this branch regrets ttat tin Association was not consulted, barors tho expenditure of the interest»on the canteen funds was decided, and recommends that the funds be devoted .wholly to the relief of disabled soldiers and their dependants." »
