A circular issued by*the railway administration Btates that the deficit for ,fche first quarter of the financial year was £600,000, making the accumulated deficit over £8,000,000. .. The Government proposes to intro-, duce short time in preference to general retrenchment, and also to revert | to longer hours in case of certain grades of work. It invites union delegates to discuss the position with the Minister.
