The town clerk, Invercargill, asked for the support of tlie i/Our.cil in a protest to the Government against the increase in the audit leas. The letter was received. Rlccarton Avenue. The Rlccarton Borough Council wrote expressing regret that tho City Council had found it impossible to finance ita portion of the scheme to lay down tar macadam in Kiccarton avenue, • The Mayor said it was simply a question of finance. The City Council at present did not have the money to devote to tho work. The letter was received. Reserves Committee. The Reserves Committee reported that Mr A. Freeman, the Council's assessor in connexion with the claims of tho late lessees of tho reserves at Oairnbrae and Lyndhurst, advised that the following amounts were agreed upon by the arbitrators: Amount Award.' oi claim. £ s. d. . £ a. d. . McNamara 260 0 0 843 10 0 The committer recommended that those amounts bo paid, toge.her with interest at tho rote of 5 per oent. per annum from the dato of the expiration of tho leases. The report waa adopted. Works Committee. The Works Committee reported that the city surveyor estimated the cost of widening Rhodes street at £260, half of which was to bs Tiaid by the Christchurch Tramway Board. The committee had authorised tho work to be put in hand at once, and provision for tho Council's share of the cost was made on the current year's estimates. The city surveyor had been instructed to put in hand the formation of \h> widened port'on of Hawford roid. including channelling and asphalting. The work waa authorised some time ago. The report was adopted.
