PREVENTION OF DISEASE.
10 Tint JtDU'OB oi* ""THE Sir, —Dr. Herbert's address on the above subject ia und illuminative, tfcpwiauy in re&ui'd to taoercujosis, wflich, he says, "i& one oi tiie most curaWe cu&eases itnown. ignorance anu negiect are tne real ouU&ea of - the vast majority ot: deatus from tuberculosis." If by tiiis „tatement the doctor means on tue pubuc's part only, thea I join issue with him. The average family doctor ia very often wrong in his diagnosis of . this disuse in. its earlier stages. Take my own case. Fifteen months ago, I had a and immediately consulted a metUcaJ man, who made a most careful examination of my lungs, and said: "1 can find nothing wrong with th m." Later, I consulted another doctor, who pronounced it catarrh of the throat. Ito again I was misled, and it was not until ten months after my original visit that my diiease was declared to be tuberculosis. Thus the very peri d which Dr. Herbert | states is so vital was wasted, because I of lack of . knowledge of the medical I pro'easora. In chatting with my fellowi patients, I find their experiences very j similar to mine. I was not aware that expert knowledge was necessary, being a layman, but the doctors whom I con-, 'suited, knowing the facts, should have i aent me to Dr. Blackmore earlier. If the' Medical Association would insist [ that every-case in which the doctor is i doubtful should "be sent to an expert, I many more would be cured of this | scourge.—Yours, etc.. T. ROBERTSON. Coronation Hospital, August 15th.
