NOTES AND MEMORANDA.
Five years ago fha clergy and peopla of St. Lake's began a 'service at 9 a.m. Sunday, and it has been found that a'number of peopla can attend at that hour taora easily thai .ait the time wiuoh a farmer generation had stereotyped. The keynotes of the service are brevity, simplicity, reverence, and homeliness. The service to-morrow will be made an act of thanksgiving for guidance and blessing- granted to this experiment.
- ' At tho Rugby street Methodist Church tomorrow night, at 6.80, the Rot. J. Napder Milne will leoture oil "Some Ancient and Modem Miracles." There will be special reference to Ratana'e faith-cures and to tie Christian science and new thought movements. A special. service of music will J>e given by a large cboar under the direction of Mr W. Simpson. Mrs V. Jl. Edgar will eing as a solo Sullivan's "liovo Not the World,!' while the special hymns, "Wo "Would See Jeeus" and "Rock of Ages," will be sunsr by the choir. _ In tbe Durham street - Methodist Ohuroh to-morrow the Rev. John Hairie will oroech in. the morning (sacrament). In. the evening the Rev. W. Ready will deliver his monthly lecture to young men and women on tho subjoct, "The Truth tihat miide Weriey, awi Saved : England. An anthem by the chcdr and solo will be given. To-morrow evening' at ithe Wesley Church, Fitzgerald avenue, the Rev. E. D. Paitehett will take for his subject "In Praise of the Oommonplacp," and Mi«a M. Down will sin# the efl-crred solo "I Will Gave You Best" (Cowen). A hare drive will bo held in the Medbury scrub on Saturday iext, starting 1 from the Horsley Downs rabbit g«t», at 5.30 a.m. The annual meeting of diareholdera in the Kaiapoi "Woollen Manufacturing Company, Ltd., will be held at the offices 'of the company/Manchester dkeet, on Monday, August 22nd, at 2.80 p.m.
