An outbreak of fire occurred la*i night in tho nine-roomed residence o! Mr Oxford (Collector of Custom*), situated in High Btreet. Three children were the only occupants of the house. The eldest, a girl of 15 yearn, displayed great presence of mind, immediately taking the baby from the front bedroom and giving the alarm. The Brigade effected a good save. Two rooms wero damaged, and the furniture suffered from the effects of water. The dbmage is covered by insurance.
