CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB

GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. TO-DAY'S PBOGEAMME. The Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan Meeting will be continued at Riccarton to-day. The weather promises to be fine. As the ground is drying fast, conditions will be much more comfortable underfoot than was the case on Tuesday. The principal event is the Grand National Hurdles. Alteration has been a strong favourite ever since lie won the Winter Hurdles at the Wellington Winter Meeting, but he broke down yesterday and will not be a start-, er. Gladful, Kauri King, Multive, Thrace, Sir Fanciful and Demagogue promise to be well supported. A field of eleven will contest the Beauiort Steeplechase and although Coroglen has received a considerable rise in weight, he is sure to be greatly fancied bv the public. The lot opposing him are by no means bad, and he will have to jump better than he did in the Grand National Steeplechase if he is to win. On Winter Cup form Kulowen and Fabrinade should run well in the August Handicap. Penury Rose won the Trial Hurdles very decisively on Tuesday, and, notwithstanding that he will be carrying more weight, he looks likely to go out favourite for the Sprey* don Hurdle Handicap. The first race will be run at 11 a.m., and the usual train and tram services will be at the disposal of patrons. Following is the day's card: —
