Labour members in the House oi Commons introduced an Illegitimacy Bill proposing drastic amendments to the law, including provisions that afiil ution applications may be made before a child's birth, that the maximum weekly maintenance shall be £2, that a father may be ordered to contribute towards apprenticeship, and that special education maintenance may be ordered beyond the age of sixteen if a child la physically or mentally deformed. In the alternative, the Court may order the payment of a lump sum and a child may be legitimatised by the subsequent marriage of the parents.
