ANNUAL MEETING.

The. annual meeting of the New Zealand Shorthorn Cjlttle Breeders' Association • was held in the A. and P. Association's yesterday morning. There was a small at. tendance of members, Mr Rm'E. Stafford had supplied a history of the earlier importations to Canterbury, and it was hoped that, similar information might be obtained regarding the early importations to the North Island, that these no.es might' be published in the Guide. Messrs R.* E. Alexander for the South Island, and W. G. Park for the North Island, retire in rotation as members of the Council, and the resignation as" a member of the Council had been received' from Mr J. Grigg. Messrs Tl. E. Alexander, W. G. Park, and G. Stoddart (Lincoln} had been' nominated to fill the vacancies.' The balance-sheet showed a credit balance-of £328 9s 6d, which had been carried to capital'account. ' In capital account, the assets exceed the .liabilities., by £904 19s 7d. . The president, in moving the adoption of the report 'and balance-sheet, referred to various matters touched on in the report. One of the bulls that had been awarded: a silver shield had been disqualified owing: to the conditions not being complied with. The stud breeding industry had been particularly depressed owing to the state of the meat market, but.he hoped that.it was merely a passing phase. It was hoped to be able to insist on the ear-marking of stock. ] Members of the Association, who were also members of the-Agricultural and Pastoral Association, should insist on the beat judges being, appointed at shows.- , The* accounts were in a satisfactory-condition, there b?ing a credit bank balance of £724 15s 7d, which he proposed should be devoted to the purchase of war bonds. Their financial position was more satisfactory than that of most institutions of'the kind.

The motion for the adoption of the report was seconded by Mr J. Beans, and carried. The election of officers resulted as folr lowa:—President,- Mr B. E. Alexander (reelected); vice-presidents, 'Mr A.. Hunter; council, Messrs W. G. Park (North Island), G. Stoddart (Lincoln), R. Millar (Whangarei), and J. A. Johnstone (Bushy Park). Mr Deans proposed that the name,of the Association be changed to the ''Shorthorn Society of New Zealand." It woe shorter than the present title, which was confusing. The motion was carried. It ' was decided that • when a : breeder wishes to enter animals for semi-official tests,- the whole herd should be entered, and sot" single animals; also, that the average of the whole herd be then published. The award of fourteen shields for champion bulls during the coming season was decided upon; tho awards to be made at shows held at the following places:— Hamilton, Manawatu, Carterton, Giaborne, Whangsrei, Napier, Wanganui, Chriatchurch, Ellesmere, Dunedin, Invercargill, . Timara, Aahburton, and Gore.
