OBITUARY.

CLAUDE BANTOCK. (By Cable—Press Association —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received June 23rd, 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, June 23. The death is announced" of Claude Bantock, the well-known comedian. MR JOSEPH VANGIONI. Mr Joseph Vangioni, a Peninsula pioneer, died at his residence, Akaroa, on Wednesday, aged 86 years. He was a native of Calomini, Central Italy, and in 1855 lie went to America. In 18G1 his travels brought him to Australia, I and in the following year he came to New Zealand, attracted by the Otago 1 goldfields rush, but ho did not remain at tho "diggings" long._ In 1864 ho commenced road contracting on Banks Peninsula, and subsequently opened a store and conducted: an. ©xcensivo mer- i cantile business. Mr Vangioni was married in 1870, at Akaroa, to Mii& Julia Brockelbank, of London, and there were eleven Children by the marriage, eight of whom are living, namely, Mr Louis Joseph Vangioni, Mr Thomas Vangioni, Mrs E. Lc'ievre, Mrs IT. Narbey, Mrs G. Hennie, Mrs F. I Kearney, Mrs E. Kearney, and Miss Vangioni. Mr Vangioni took a very great interest in all matters pertaining to the welfare of Akaroa and the district, and was greatly respected. He was for fieveral years a member of the Akaroa, Borough Council, t-nd he also served on the School Committee. The funeral will tako place at 2 p.m. today at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Akaroa. John ■Gordon_Sutton, son of Mr J. A. Sutton, of Waitangi Station, who died at Oamaru on Monday, at the age of 21 years, will be well remembered as the fast wing-three-quarter of the Waitaki Boys' High School first fifteen, of which he was a member for two years. After attending the Waitaki Boya' High School for five years, at the beginning of last year he went to Duned : n, where he received an appointment in' the employ of Messrs Hislop, Lang, and Patterson, solicitors, at the same time attending the Otapo University, where he commenced a course in law this year. Deceased was a member of the Dunedin Pirates first fifteen last year. Death was due to appendicitis. Mr A. Broadbelt, of Feilding, who owned considerable sawmilling interests on the Main Trunk line, died suddenly at Taihape on Tuesday morning. He was attending a meeting of the Rangitikei SawmilTers' Association and was entering the sawmillers' premises when he collapsed, from heart failure. ■ Mr Broadbelt was .75 years of age. The death occurred at Wellington this week of Mr Joseph Pedrazzi, who was well-known on the West Coast. He had been in had health for the past eight months. He waß engaged''as a dentist in Reefton prior to entering camp, and later he was in t-lio employ of Mr Sortierville, Wellington, as a dentist. He was 35 years of ago, and was a native of Ross.
