The -"Financial News'' publishes a statement, described aB coming from a trustworthy "source, that a, mysterious meeting of German bankers at Berlin proposed a capital levy on April 15th on one-half of all the possessions of every German, with a view of meeting Germany's reparations obligations. When ninety milliards of marks have been paid, the Allies''-international body of economic experts will fix the final amount to be paid. The Allies will be asked to remove j6as> 12 per cent, export duty, guaranteeing free trade in foreign imports. REPLY TO M. BRIAND. (Received April 10th, 5 5 p.m.) -■ BERLIN, April 8. Yielding to the demands of the Nationalists, the German Government is organising a demonstration as reply to M. Briand.
[M. Briand reiterated France's defcSrI mination to compel Germany to pay for war damages. Germany would find the means to pay when the Allies substituted acts for words. The supreme moment was approaching, and France was determined to have the Jast word. Germany had been fully warned, and France was determined to exact her due forcibly if necessary.] THE SILESIAN. Acting on the Inter-Allied Commission's authority, a French police officer and four, menlat Gleiwitz sought to arrest Captain \on Demming on a charge of provoking anti-Polish and outi-French agitations. Von Demming shot three policemen dead and seriously wounded the officer. France is demanding an explanation I and reparation. _
