Sanger's elephants, performing in the "Olympia Circus, were much perturbed by the appearance of a mouse, <say» the "Pall Mall Gazette'.' of January 12th. The little fellow got into their hay, and, in particular, Tiny the Tank, aged seventy-six years, was frightened, and expressed his fears loudly, and for long. His keepers 'had to make quite a fuss of him to prepare him for his show. Elephants have a horror of mioe, because their instinct tells them that the tiny rodent may' seek shelter up the trunk. In the German'menagerie some years ago a mouse did enter an elephant's trunk", and so terrified the nachyderm that a troupe of ten were upset for days.
