CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP.

Except for a strong nor'-wester, which proved tricky to play agninst, ideal conditions prevailed at the Shirley links on Saturday, wli*n tho Christchurch Golf Club's Thirteenth Easter Tournament was touiineuced. Therq was an excellent entry, seventy . competitors occupying tho links, which, according- to old players, wero never feen in belter condition. In addition to local players, golfers were present, from various parts oi the Dominion. Six enmo from Otago, and one from 'Wellington. J.. 11. Gale also came down from Auckland, hut was unfortunately \::uiblo to compete through illness. South Canterbury had a. strong contingent in the two Wrights, E. A. Scott, and C. 11. Greason. J. \V. Clark was present from as far afield 1 as tho Kensington Club, Xew South 'Wales. Tho holder of tho Canterbury championship, Dr. K. Koss, of Dunedin, wa3 unablo to defend his titlo ow< ing to his absence from the for a similar reason Dr. Barnett, tho Shirley Club's champion, wps unablo to be presont. Tho championship was won by 13. B. Wood, who beat E. A. Scott by on© point, P. C. 'Wright, C. C. Sempler, C. A. Seymour, and H. W. Mnciarlano being 1 equal for third place, one point behind Scott.
