COLLEGE HOUSE.

xo the editor or "the press." Sir,—An appeal was made to-day, at the Cathedral, by the Her. Canon Wilford, for funuj to enlarge College House, owing to the accommodation being insufficient for the number of students requiring rooms. As the appeal was made in church, one naturally supposes that College House is overflowing with theological students; but I am told that is not the case, and that very few theological students are coming forward for training at College House, but that the large number spoken of by Canon Wilford are Canterbury College students. Now, Canterbury College can well afford to provide hostel accommodation for undergraduates, and, I believe, fully intends doing so. When College House is overflowing with theological students, that is the time for the Church to provide funds for enlargement.—Yours, etc., STRAIGHTFORWARD. February 6th. [On the day referred to Oanon Wflford said it was not of the theological students only tfiat he was thinking, and a leaflet circulated in the Cathedral in December expressly 6ays that "all four divisions of the Upper Department of the College which were planned and spoken of at that famous Ipswich meeting (in May, 1850) are represented at iCollege House to-day—Theological, Classical, Engineering, and Agricultural." Canon Wilford informs us that if there is anyone who, not clearly hear, ing, or misunderstanding, the appeal, gave money for exclusive use upon theological students, his donation will be returned.—Ed. "The Press."]
