MAGISTERIAL. THURSDAY. (Hefore Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M.) D H U XKEXXE S S. William H. T. F. Newill, a. second offender, was charged with drunkenness and having broken a prohibition order. His wife gave evidence that he was of drunken habits. Newill was declared to be an habitual inebriate, and was committed to Roto Boa for six months. NINE MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT. Alfred Ernest Smith, aliaaWatson,_ for failing to comply with the terms of his. probation. in respect to three convictions for obtaining moijey under false pretences, waa sentenced to three month:;' imprisonment on each charge, tho sentences to be cumulative. 'CIVIL CASES. Judgment by default waa entered in the following cases:—H. Ma-tson and Co. v. L. A. it. Noonan, £5 6s; Bristol Piano Co., Ltd. v. Mary Schroeder, 7s, coats only; F. D. Kesteven v. H. E. Hibbard, £l5O 15b; Heathcote County Council r. John Crocker, £2 15s 9d; Thomas Atwill v. H. L. Olney, £3 12s. , , . An application for the payment of £ll lie, against A. L. Lanadown, by John Fuller, was dismissed, there being* no proof of means. A. S. Sogers was ordered to pay £2 4a to P. and D. Duncan, Ltd., in default seven days' imprisonment. in otheT places. (press association telegram.) •WELLINGTON, February 8. At the Supreme Court to-day a taxidriver named Percy Higgs was charged, wfth having 1 received stolen goods, valued at £•200. from William James Roach, and Phyllis Banks, who are already undergolngl sentence for the theft of the goods, prosecution' relied on the evidence of the two prisoners. The jury returned a verdict of guilty. A sentence of twelve months imprisonment, with hard labour, was Imposed.
