SOUTHBBIDOE. TCie North Rakaia River Board met at Southbridge on Monday. There» v/ero present: Messrs 13. J- Cowan, W M. (3abbie, J. P. Mcßvedy^-tnd W.. Lodihead. The election or chairman tor the ensuing vear was left over until the next meeting so that ali the members could bo present. Mr Cowan was elected chairman for the meeting. T&© •secretary stated that the lenses of the Board's a-esorves would expire, on April 80th. It was. decided to call tenders for the leases at once for a term of fourteen years. It was reported that Mr J. D. Campbell had completed the repairs authorised to bo made to the pro-tec-tire groynes. HINDS. The Hinds School reopened on Tuesday morning with a, satisfactory attendance. During tho indisposition of Mr J. Cook, a relieving headmaster will be in charge. The recent rains have made a difference in the appearance of the country, but fine neather is needed to enable farmers tp finish the harvest operations. A -wave of sickness seems to 'have overtaken the district, and many residents from Hinds are in tho Ashburton Hospital. The Rev. J. Feron, vioar;o|. Hinds, is laid aside with: a broken leg, and his Sunday duties are being takon by relieving clergy.
