THE COAL TRADE. BIG CONCESSIONS DEMANDED. (By Cable—Press Association—Copyright.) (Australian and X.Z. Cablo Association) SYDNEY, January 31. The annual council meeting of the Coal and Shale Employees' Federation carried a motion of no-confidence in tho New South "Wales Ministry for its failure to reinstate tho strikers "victimised" in trio 1917 striko. It was also, decided to make the following demands on the New Zealand coal owners:—A six hours' shift from Lank to bank, a fortnight's holiday on full nay annually, and a five-day week. SYDNEY, January 31. The New Zealand delegate was present at the Coal Employees' Federation conference, and explained the Dominion's position.
IRON MINES CLOSE DOWN. (■Received January 31st, 9.10 p.m.) LONDON, January 30. Tho Hodbarrcw Iron Ore mines at Millom, the largest in the world, have closed down, rendering idle two thousand workers.
