An invention which it is claimed will make railway collisions impossible was closely tested by British Ministry of Transport and railway officials on the Great Eastern Railway between Grange Hill and Fairlop, Esses, recently. Time after time a passenger train was run at full speed past signals which wero asrainst % it, only to be pulled up -at a given point by automatic agency. The system, which is the property of tho Regan Safety Devices Company", consists of an electric brake device on the engine which is set in motion by a ramp, or short third rail, laid down at intervals along the track. After tho tests 3fr J. H. Thomas, 31.P., who rode-on the engine, said to a "Daily Mail l, reposter: "I th : nk this invention is splendid. If it were adopted it wo'uld not matter whether , an engine driver were asleep, drunk, or dead, for if the lino were blocked the engine would bo automatically pulled up."
