MAILS BY AIR.
SERVICES ARRANGED. fSPECIAL TO "THE PItESS.") WELLINGTON, December 11. Early this year the Post and Telegraph Department carried out experiments in the carriage of mails by aeroplane. The trials demonstrated that the machines could be used witlh advantage in providing mail services, especially for districts which could not be served quickly by train or steamer. The Postmaster-General (Hon. J. G. Coates), who has taken a keen interest in this work, to-day announced that the Department ttiad made arrangements tor the inauguration cf regular aerial mail services. The routes would bo from Christchurch to Timaru and return, and the round journey Aucltland-Dargaville-'Whangarei-Auckland. No information is available as to the cost of the service: but it is safe to assume (says the ''Post"J that the charge for letters will be more than for nackets carried by the ordinary mails, but not so much as for telegrams. Arrangements are to be made for the delivery of packets by special messenger from certain points. The service will be commenced early in the 2sew Year.
