+ The c.'ccutivo committee of the South Island Motor Union met oa Thursday night, there being present—Messrs J. S_. Hftwkes (chairman), \Y. H. .Benson, F. V. Thomas, if. M. Orbell. and P. R. Herman, (secretary). Mr F. \V. Johnston, president, wrote- suggesting that the mooting should protest ogain3~t tlia Government proposals to_ taac motorists for roading purposes without j:ivin<r them repro;sntation on tlio proposed Road Board. • The chairman eaid ho understood the Bih k would be submitted first to tho Union before it came before tho Eouse. Mr Benson said the Union vras sending i in suggestions, and il thos© ruggpstions weTe taken, no notice of then tho Union could protest. There had been no official statement so far that tlte Union was to ie | ignored. Mr Ben«on eugsested that an_ oppeal_ be j issued to nil South Isiar.'d motorists to join |up with their local Association to piake i stronger -the organisation that e.xistid for ! t]i"ir benefit. i It was decided to make representation *o I tho local Associations accordingly, i ■
