SUMNER CLUB. A meeting of the Sumner Life-Saving and Surf-Bathing Club was hold in the pavilion last .night, 2£r -H. Buttle presiding.. Before commencing the' regular business, the chairman referred to the Bad bereavement recently sustained by Mr S. I£. Bassett. •He moved "e< resolution of sympathy, -which was carried. " On the motion of the ohairman, the name of Mr J. H. Thomas was added to the committee. • The captain reported that the condition of somo of tho gear frag such that it would bo tiaky to attempt a heavy rescue in a rough sea It wea decided to endeavour to secure a, aupplyi of now ropo at once, euch gear, in th/» meantime, to be taken special car-o of. Correspondence was received from the Taylot's Mistake Club regarding the Kostevqji Cun competition on tho 19th mst. . Tlie captain reported having stored a te£m for tho competition. The Surf Association wrote stating l that tho Benson Shield competition would take place on the ■ Sumner beach on January 22na. It was decided to make arrangements for the l holding of the eame at the next meeting. Donations of one gnfhea each were received from Messrs L. llataon, F. N. Adams, and N. It. Johansen. Fivo new members were elected. It was reported that the Boys' High School Cadets would hold their morning bathing parade on the beach during their camp ill Rcdcliffs. Tho meeting decided to place tbd pavilion at the disposal of the camp, and to give advice regarding the safe bathing area on tho seaward beach. On tho motion of tho oliairmen, it waa decided that the club* should he represented at the public meeting oallod to consider th® question of a gala for beach improvements. After a lensrthy discussion on beach patrol, it waa decided that a communication elionld I be sent to the Minister of Internal Affaire) | asking for a subsidy to cover the cost of ai beach patrol.
