FREAK PHOTOGRAPHS.
TO THIS EDITOn OF "THT. PRESS." Sir,- —Mr Peter Trolovo would make , a first-class detectivo .should prohibition ever bo carried in New Zealand, for ihtf is evidently great at "spirits. Even tho reflection of a. girl in tho watei 1 ho assumes must be a spirit. Tho photo was evidently sent to him as a joke. If, however, Mr Trolove's assumption is correct, it surely will nol> be good for the morals of tho initiated if Bpirits of departed ladies aro going to show themselves ■ down ! JtThiis always Btruck mo t*hat if spirits of tho departed arc still on tho scene, as the Spiritualists assert, then it nob help tho morals of those spirits who are witnesses of scores that aro supposed to be hidden from all but tho actors. I will tell Mr Trolovo of a much more curious case in the pfhotographic line. A friend of mino took a photo of three iittlo children, two standing side by side and ono in front. One of the children at the back was clearly duplicated, standing two or three loet, apparently, from the original. I showed it to ono of tfho most experienced professional photographers - in Christchurch, but he could not account) for the way in which it was done, any more than could the man.wiho took tho picturo, for there was no attempt at any faking. This same professional photographer then showed mo a photograph ho had taken of Heynvood and Co.'s building in Manchester street, and it was, minus ono of the middlo storeysi To tho naked eye there was no sign of a break in the, picturo, and what had happened was a puzzlo to the photographer. Funny things can bo done with t'ho camera. ' I have a photo I took myself showing a river running along the top of r, range of mountains! Haro rivers a "spirit"?. I know thnb their water is sometimes used in. connexion with another kind of spirit. Tliese curious photos should certainly bo collected and handed to Sir Conan Doyle for his opinion, if Mr Trolovo cannot solve t)he problems.—Yours, etc.. AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER. O-ctobcr Bth.
