CHRIST'S COLLEGE OLD BOYS' ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL REPOET.

The annual general meeting of the Christ's College old Boys' Association ts ill be held in the "Big School" next Thursday evening, following on the annual sports of the College, which will be held that afternoon.

The annual report to be presented at the old boys' meeting states that the income for the past year did not prove adequate, partly by reason of an increased cost of carrying on the work of the Association, but chiefly because members did not assist by prompt payment of subscriptions. The committee considers it deplorable that on August 31st last there should be a total of £132 outstanding in subscriptions due from 194 members. The various gatherings of old boys held during the year resulted in a loss of £13 lis 3d. primarily duo to poor attendances. The Reserve Fund now stands at £324 fls 9d, as against £178 7s '7d at the end of the previous yeaTj £131 os having been added in fife membership fees. Tho 10port details the results of various competitions held during the year, and, speaking of the R. H. Rhodes endowment, states that the principal grant made by the committee during the past year from the income at its disposal was a sum of £50 to the Oadet Corps, to enable it to purchase a set of match rifles for the use of the-Shooting VIII. "When in England,. Mr N. It, Macbeth procured two sets of oars for the use of the rowing crews, and a sum of £38 14s 9d was allocated from the fund to cover the cost. Other grants included £40 for the purchase of a science lantern, £10 to the. College Entertainment Committee for tho purcha.se of new musio and musical instruments, afid other improvements, and £8 15s to provido a case in the library to contain war trophies. • The Hare Memorial Library building has now been completed by the construction of a fireplace and mantelpiece, and the engraving on the latter of a suitable inscription. The Association is indebted to the architect, Mr C. W. Wood, for the design and for supervision of the work, and to Professor Haslam for the inscription. The accounts show that a balance of £47 7s is required (to complete payment o£ the cost of the work. There has been a lack of support, the report continues, of the various gatherings of old boys organised in the past, and the incoming committee should reconsider the policy of holding such meetings. It has been suggested that an old boys' boll should be heldj in Grand National week, and the annual meeting will be asked to express 1 an opinion on the matter. The report concludes by stating that Mr J- C. N. Grigg, winner last year of the old boys' raco, has suggested that as there is no room for any further names on the present cup, presented by Mr C. C. Corfc, in 1872,* a new cup, exactly similar, should be procured by the Association, and the present cup placed in the Hare Memorial" It is estimated that a new cup Will cost about £50, and the sum of £4 4s has been presented by J. C. N., J H., G- H » 111(1 A - Gngg. The Ladies' Challenge Cup, presented in 1863. is also full, and_ the suggestion has been made that wives and daughters of old boys should be invited to replace it, the estimated cost being £23. .
