j KAIAPOI. The Kaiapoi Borough. Council mot last night. Present —The Mayor (Mr J. H. Bleckwell), Cre. W. Doubleday, li. Wylie, T. B. Leithend, W. A. Wallace, J. L. Smith, a,nd> 11. Dunn. A letter was received from the AuditorGeneral with reference to peace celebrations expenditure, advising that the Solicitor-Gene-ral's oponion was that the councillors concerned .had not comc within section 42 of tlio Municipal Corporations Act. Permission was granted Sir' H. "W. ChiMa to erect a sign in Cookson street. The Lighting Committee was instructed to report on the Public Works Department's estimate of iEIKU for transformers and high tension lines to 'Raven street. Tie Works Committee,reported that it had no recommendation to make wiili reference to an increased allowance to tie borough! cartagx? contractor. Tho oammitteo recommended that tho frotrtago on Raven and Hi?h streets oa tho line of tho proposed now building- b© bpardod up.—Adopted. On the recommendation o£ the Fire Prevention Committee, it was decided to have the fire engino overhauled.
