OURUHIA.

For a number of years past the Ouruhia and Mairehau districts have annually played each other friendly games of euchre. Last Thursday about '30 residents of Ouruhia played tho local residents, in tho Mairehau Hall. After a very close gaine, Mairehau won by 78 points to 74. The arrangements were ably carried out by Mr L. H. Wilson. After refreshments had been handed round by the ladies of tho district, a dance was held, Mr H. W. Pcryman supplying the music. A return match will be played at Ouruhia next Saturday night. ASHBTTOTON. Mr T. Bullock, who einco-the inception of tho Ashburton Gas Company 42 years ago, has been chairman of directors, resigned the office, and also that of director, at a meeting held on Monday. Mr Robert Bell, who has been acting-chairman sincc Mr Bullock's recent indisposition, was appointed chairman. Mr Bell referred to Mr Bullock's long connexion with the company, and moved that the resignation be accepted with great regret. All the other directors endorsed Mr Bell's remarks.
