»— j HON. D. BUDDO ENTEBTAINBD. ! The Hon. D. Buddo and Mrs Buddo, i who have recently left North Canterbury to reside in Papanui, were entertained by Rangiora friends at the' Institute Hall last night. The Mayor (Mr C. I. Jennings) presided. The chairman road a telegram from the Mayor of Kaiapoi (Mr J. H. Blackwell), conveying best wisftes and appreciation of tiie Hon. i>. Buddo's good qualities. He also read a felicitous letter from Mr J. L. Wilson, of Kaiapoi, and made reference himself to Mr Buddo's high standing in the general esteem. Mr Buddo had made a host of personal friends, he said, and, unlike many other politicians, ho had no enemies. He was generous almost to a fault, and tho people of the town and district had to thank him for 3 many <rood services. . The departure of Mr and Mrs'Buddo from Rangiora was a matter for keen regret, but it was pleasing to know that they were to live close enough to be frequent visiMr F. Horrell, chairman of the Rangiora County Council, bore testimony to Mr Buddo's services on local bodies: Mr W. A. Banks spoke of Mr Buddo's services in tho cause of education : and Mr R. A concert programme that was presented consisted of quartets by tho Lyric Four (Messrs S. J. Morgan, H. Blakeley, K. More, and E. J. Johnson); songs by Misses Wagner and Rose Horrell, and Mr Biakeley; a duet by Messrs Bkkelev and Johnson; recitations by Miss Rita MrGruer and character sketches by Mr R. Turner. Accompaniments were played by Mr R. A. Home and Mrs C. E. Bell. A supper at the Royal Tea Rooms : concluded the function. The health | of the guests, and of Mr W\ McGiuer, chairman of tie organising committee, were drunk.
