TERCENTENARY CELEBRATIONS. Under tho joint auspices of the Congregational Union of New Zealand and the Christchurch Council of Churches, the tercentenary of the sailing of the Mayflower for America with tho Pilgrim Fathers was fittingly honoured in Trinity Congregational Church last night. There was a largo attendance, tho llcv. W. J. "Williams, president of the Council of Churches, being chairman. The proceedings wore followed with great interest, tho audience recognising evidently the force of tho remarl? made by the Rev. W. H. A. that such commemorations teach the present generation what they owe to the past. Tho singing of the first verse of the National Anthem opened tho proceedings; then followed the hymn, "Our Fathers were High-minded Men." The Rev. Clyde Carr offered up the invocatory prayer, which was followed by tho Lord's Prayer. The Rev. J. J. North delivered the first address. "Puritanism in Old England,'' in wnich the subject was dealt with historically and most interestingly. The Rev. W. H. A. Yickery told "The Story of the May flower" in a manner which held the attention of his hearers; and the Rev. Dr. Erwin ■ spoke eloquentlv on "The Spirit of Puritanism in history.'' The addresses were interspersed with vocal items A united choir, under tho baton of the Rev. Clyde Carr, gave t the anthems "Send Out the Light" | (Gounod), and "How Lovely Aro tho | Messengers" (Mendelssohn), Miss Mabel i Dyer sung "Entreat Me Not to Leave! Thee'' (from "Ruth"), and Sir Jack ; Richards sang "God ia Our Refuge"! (Carey). The hymns, ""We limit not the Power of God," and ""When."Wilt Thou Save the People?" were sung,' and the consecration prayer was offered i by the chairman.
