TRAMWAY WAGES
INCREASES ANTICIPATED. The Tramway Union has applied to the Board for a further advance in wages. The Works and Traffic Committee decided to adhere to the terms of the agreement made with the union last February, under which increases are to be made in accordance with the Government Statistician's half-yearly reports to the Arbitration Court, but, in an endeavour to meet tho union's wishes decided to anticipate tthe next half-yearly report by making an increase for the Jirst three months of that period. The committee also decided to widen the special grade section of motormen and conductors, who receive an additional Id per hour in excess of the award rates, by altering the period of service necessary from twelve years to eight years. As on former occasions, vne men's record will be taken into account in compiling the list.
